THE PHILOSOPHY OF YOGA 

  • The foundations of yoga philosophy - ancient texts including: Patanjali's Yoga Sutras - the eight limbs, Bhagavad Gita, Hatha Yoga Pradapika
  • The Ethics in yoga philosophy
  • Professional ethics in business, teaching and life
  • Yogic lifestyle - yoga as a way of life,  verbal & non-verbal chanting 

THE SUBTLE ANATOMY OF YOGA 

  • Study of subtle body: the study of seven main chakras in detail in regard to their location, petals, seed mantras, deity and colour
  • Understanding of kundalini shakti and important nadis
  • Learning the techniques of meditation on chakras and the teaching practice 

PHYSIOLOGY 

  • Study of important bodily system such as: digestive, skeletal and muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory and nervous systems 
  • Deconstruction of yoga poses anatomically to identify the agonist, anti agonist muscles and joint movements as well. We will be using a variety of study mediums including:  class discussions, PowerPoint slideshow and video 

practical

  • The practical part of Hatha yoga  helps the students to explore their own bodies by extensive guided as well as independent practice of asanas, pranayamahas, bandhas, mudras, shatkarmas and meditation techniques
  • The class presentations would allow the students to receive feedback from the participants to improve on various  skills of teachings for example: pace of instructions, demonstration,observation, assistance, adjustments, alignment principles, voice modulations, benefits/contradictions , principles of breathing coupled with movements, communication skills,  sequencing and class design

Theoretical Study

  • Introduction, meaning and history of yoga, importance of yoga in our daily life
  • Brief Introduction to know the basic differences in different types of yoga: Raja-yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Bhakti yoga, Karma Yoga, Janna yoga, mantra yoga, Hatha yoga etc.
  • Introduction of some prominent yogis for example: Maharishi Patanjali,Yogi ,Gorakshnath, Maharishi Dayanand,Swami Vivekanand, Swami Shivananda and Swami Ramdev
  • Deep Study of Asanas (bodily postures),  Pranayamha (breathing exercises), Mudras (gestures) and Shatkarmas
  • Detailed study and discussions on yog sutras of Maharishi Patanjali to understand the  philosophy behind Raja Yoga
  • Study of physical anatomy: important bodily systems 
  • Learn subtle anatomy such as: chakras, prana, kundalinin shakti and nadis
  • Study of yogic management of common diseases through yoga
  • Learning how to structure a wide variety of classes and how to incorporate the important elements of yoga into the classroom
